MAKING NEW FRIENDS IN COLLEGE

Journey through college is considered a MILESTONE in one’s life marked by personal and academic growth -development with new experiences and challenges

Being Student is both challenging and rewarding experience.

It can be a time of personal growth, learning and self discovery.

It can also be a time of loneliness, scary and difficult.

NEW SOCIAL ENVIRONMENT

Making new friends is one of the most common challenges that is faced by college students. 

FEELING NERVOUS 🙁 is common among many of the students out there in the new atmosphere, where you have hundreds of complete strangers . But the reality is that each one of them is eager to make new friends.

                             

Making new friends requires conscious effort and requires vital skills.

Here will discuss 4 different ways to approach people in college and try to know each other and be friends.

“HOW TO APPROACH”

Take THE FIRST STEP
by “YOURSELF”		(B)
GET out of YOUR
“COMFORT ZONE”		(C)
Join “ACTIVITIES”
& “GROUPS”		(D)
“RIGHT ATTITUDE”
1.Go to the classes
before time
Introduce yourself
to the person
sitting next to you
Strike related
conversation
1. Go to CAMPUS
events
Nothing will be possible
if you are into your
shell
Go to Campus events –
sports or musical or
debate activities
You will find lots of
potential
friends and this way
you will
always be the
UPDATED ONES
in the college .		1. Join A CLUB
College runs lots of
clubs
for sports interest,
music interest,
pre-professional
clubs ,
academic interests.
As per your interest
join
any one of them
where
you will find
like minded people
with whom you may
become friends		1. Be Approachable
Instead of looking at
phone always or
pretending to be
engaged; as this
won’t invite
people.
Its better to put down
the phone and
look relaxed confident
and at ease
Do smile at people
and make
eye contact.

2.Invite people to
hang out
Take initiative to ask
for accompany
for canteen, library
or Gym
Doing daily activities
together is
the great way to
socialize		2. Do your Assignments
in
SOCIAL SPACES
Library is one place where
one can
study but during the
beginning of
the Year -to know
people
around and make
new friends ;
one can study at social
places to strike
conversations with
people sitting
next to you.		2. Join A SPORTS
TEAM
If you are a sports
person
then try to join the
college
SPORTS TEAM.
This will make you
popular among
the college and easy
in
making
friends with others.		2. Be OPEN
Also try to Meet people
with different
background
as College is a place
with people from
different backgrounds
and identities.
You may become
good friends by
keeping an
open mind.
3. Make a rule of
talking
to at least
one new person daily
Be it in class ,elevator ,
canteen,Gym
or common areas
in college
The more new people
you meet
and talk the more likely
you make
new friends		3.Be OPEN with
people
When you are open to
people and
avoid judging them in
the first place
you will end up having
good friends.
If someone invites to
accompany in
places of common
interest ;you
must say “YES”.		3. VOLUNTEER
There are many
causes
which
are close to our heart.
Find if there is any of
them
related in college where
you
will find like minded
people.
Even you can organize
your
own projects .


4. Stay TRUE to
YOURSELF
Always be what
and how you are
as that is your
true identity
Do not alter
just to fit in the
group.
Be Yourself and
do not be afraid or
shy about who you
are .
Always let your
personality shine .
People will like
you who you are and
like minded ones
will be friend to you.
4. If you are staying in
hostel
PG or sharing
accommodation -
"keep your room open"
Keeping the door open
will make
others to pop in and say
Hi to you,
smile in return as they
pass,
offering snacks will
add in
good books of others
close the door when
you are not in
to avoid thefts.		4. Eat at the Dinning hall
in the campus
Regularly visiting and
eating at
same
place will give you the
opportunity
to meet new people
every day
and
striking conversation with
them
will
make new friends. 		4. Start a STUDY
GROUP
You can initiate a
Study
group
in your class that will
make class mates come
together
and deal with difficult
assignment
and share
4. Follow who are
more social
Try to be friend with
even those who have
social skills.
connecting with
them will add to your
list and moreover
social skill is an
important strength
that will be
beneficial in
personal and
professional life.

JUST NOTE THAT:-

Important is to “make connections- make friends” as they are the most reliable source .

The more friends you have the more knowledge around you.

Not every initial can be life long friendship.

Forming meaningful relationships from these connections will takes TIME; so be patient and be open.

In college you are here to study also so do maintain a healthy balance between academic and social life

Eventually one day you are going to be Professional and have to work with people; this “GET ALONG SKILL” (of making friends) will help you in managing people and this will lead you to be able to work proficiently and grow in your career.

“YOU COME AS STRANGERS ; AND LEAVE AS FRIENDS ” in college.
