AIDA format for Job Application Letter-Unsolicited

  • Looking for A CHANGE!! -switch from present position or to some other organization
  • Looking for A JOB!!-Presently Jobless

There could be any scenario but that is true that we all want to increase our opportunities and our worth . Sometimes we do have a list of our favorites or the chosen or the preferred organizations were we want to try our luck in all the above possibilities .

But Had these organizations advertised for the positions you are looking for??-

If “Yes” -“SIMPLY APPLY ACCORDINGLY “

but WHAT If “Not”!!:

You still can approach them!!!-in the hope of being contacted, as and when the positions become available by sending JOB APPLICATION LETTERS to them .

These job application letters or cover letters are known as Unsolicited Job Application. They differ from the solicited job application letters which are written to a prospective employer in response to an advertised job.

Following are the advantages of Unsolicited Job Application Letters for both the Applicants and the Potential Employers:

This is regarded as an initiative on the part of job seeker–

This letter is not as direct as a solicited letter. This letter has to be more persuasive and convincing to select you for a job which is not currently available.

AIDA FORMAT :

ATTENTION, INTEREST, DESIRE, ACTION

When there is no advertisement related to any job position in a particular organization and you still want to get employment in the same organization -You can apply by sending resume and unsolicited job application letter or covering letter.

To get noticed by the prospective employer the best way of drafting the letter is on AIDA -format.

GETTING ATTENTION

Unless the starting of the letter does not hold any thing which can grab attention for the reader ,the letter may remain unnoticed .There are different ways to introduce the matter in the letter .

For example:

  • Highlighting your outstanding qualification-“If you are looking for an executive who can type with the speed of 120 words/minute please contact me”.
  • Reference of some article in Any of the website or Magazine or Newspaper-“I read in one of the posts online that Company is expanding the business to other areas in Madhya Pradesh and understand that you may want to hire more customer service professionals in that area”
  • Familiarity with the company -“I have researched and found that you are the pioneers in the field of Microprocessors “
  • Referring to the source ,and if the source is one of the high officials from the organization-“When the Vice President -Sales of your esteemed Organization visited our campus for a lecture ,he mentioned that the company is always looking for good professionals who want to make careers in Sales”.

CREATING INTEREST:

The prospective Employers are looking for people who understand what the Job involves and are more interested in your qualifications and experience related to job and expect you to highlight the same .This can be done by pointing out your strongest qualifications and relating them to the needs of a specific position. Never repeat the facts that have already been stated in the Resume. It must interpret the facts of the related position conveying to the prospective employers that the applicant is fully aware of the job of the specified position.

For example:

  • How to be in limits for an angry customers and use of words which are non-offensive and making the customer comfortable in the call so that he can understand the problem and the solutions as well”.
  • From the three years of my experience in Customer services I have learnt how to tackle the problems related to network issues, value added services payments and non-understanding of the mobile bills.

INDUCING THE DESIRE:

As the sales emphasizes the prominent features of the product, along with the supporting evidence to convince the customers that a product is relevant to their needs. the prospective customers must be convinced that the applicant is the right person for the job at hand. Therefore the job applicants must identify their major strengths(particular qualification/ experience) and provide enough details about them to sound convincing.

For example:

  • “My MBA HR project was to work on working women dealing with work life issues and how to have work life balance .
  • I have developed a stress relief plan for them. In your esteemed organization there are majority of working women and am sure they must be dealing with same issue.”

ASKING FOR ACTION:

The last para of the letter must ask for action on the part of prospective employer.In the solicited letter(the usual ones)the desired action is to request for a personal interview. However in an unsolicited letter it can be a request to indicate whether there might be a an opening for specific position in the near future. So here the main idea is stated last. Here asking for specific action must be politely done and express gratitude as you are seeking a favor and again emphasize on your strengths in last para.

For example:

  • “Please contact the references in my enclosed resume for their comments on my customer service knowledge and my communication skills. I would be really grateful if you could indicate whether there would be an opening for a customer relation position in your esteemed organization in the near future”.

“This is A kind of sales letter basically following the fundamental steps for selling and AIDA is one of them .”
